Monday Session Log
Very exciting to see all new comers with fresh new gis.
Thank you to the grades for helping new comers with their breakfalling! This allowed us to ramp up throwing for this session.
Today we focused on handling grab attacks from behind. We started with defences from rear naked choke (Hadaka Jime). White belts did a simple drop knee seoi nage (kata hiza seoi nage), orange belts worked on seoi otoshi (shoulder drop) from this position. Similar techniques were used for over-arm grab from behind.
Then we look at a few options for under-arm grab from behind: Wrist lock, figure of 4, and then 2-on-1. When there are no class weight, there can be a great different in strength, so it is important to have several options and use strikings (atemis).
Finally, we look at wrist release from behind and apply our learning against resistance, by having our partner attempt to drag us across the mat from random grabs (still from behind).
On Wednesday, we will do some ne waza, and discuss concepts of guard passing and retention.
